About our Designers
Kenzo founded its fame on its creative spirit while addressing to the greatest number of people. The Parisian brand stands out for its folkloric side by proposing a youthful and festive style inspired by various cultures and the Parisian elegance.
It was in 1970 that Kenzo Takada created the Parisian creation house. Originally from Japan, he stands out from the codes of haute couture and sees fashion as a creative journey. This is one of the reasons why the Fashion Club Editor Award will award him in 1972, after only three seasons. The exotic prints are very present and the couturier navigates between West and East and reinterprets the kimono. This gives proportions and an unprecedented scale to the feminine silhouette.
Kenzo applies the principle of recovery to create new models, such as patchwork garments or handcrafted prints. This spirit is reflected in the brand's current collections.
In 1983, Kenzo decided to launch its first men's collection. Based on the success of its female collection of ready-to-wear, it takes again the spirit that made the success of its creations. One finds the idea of a fashion conceived as a journey, a sharing by creating pieces imbued with a strong originality.
In July 2011, Carol Lim & Humberto Leon, founders of the Opening Ceremony fashion retail stores were appointed Creative Directors of Kenzo. Using the brand’s DNA, the duo have given Kenzo their take on the revolutionary spirit with which the brand was founded.
